- DANIEL is a great Beagle mix boy who came to us from a hoarding/abuse situation in Louisiana. He is slightly taller than a standard Beagle and weighs in at 35 lbs and is about 5 years old. When DANIEL arrived we noticed his left eye was very cloudy. Our eye vet confirmed that DANIEL had glaucoma and was blind in his left eye and, unfortunately, the pressure in that eye was 75 against a normal eye pressure of 10-20 mmHg! This would result in DANIEL being in quite a lot of pain! Since DANIEL had just been neutered and treated for heartworms it would not have been prudent to perform surgery to remove the eye. So we too the opportunity to drain the fluid from the eye and administer some eye medications hoping to lower DANIEL’s eye pressure. Unfortunately, after 2 weeks his pressure was still 68. While the standard solution use to be to just remove the eye in these cases, after consultation with DR Mohoric, we decided to try “Ciliary Boy Ablation (CBA) where they injected a medication into DANIEL’s eye to kill the cells that were producing the fluid that was responsible for the high pressures and high pain. Wee, I was ecstatic today when DANIEL’s eye pressure was “7”! So DANIEL is no longer in pain and was able to keep his eye, which is much more cosmetically pleasing.
- So DANIEL is ready for adoption! He loves to gather lots of towels and blankets and make his own bed and, if possible, he would prefer it be on top of a table or in a chair.
