ROMAN WILL BE READY FOR SLEEPOVER THE 1ST OF JUNE! ROMAN IS ONE OF THE MOST GENTLE, MELLOW, LOVING DOGS YOU WILL EVER MEET! HE IS AN ABSOLUTE TREASURE!!! We always want to disclose all information but please don't let the medical issue he experienced make you miss out on this wonderful dog. He has healed and is doing absolutely fantastic.
UPDATE 5/11 - If you follow our Facebook page, you may have seen that Roman recently experienced a sort of freak incident. Although the cause is not definitively known, the doctors at University of Florida Small Animal Hospital suggested that Roman may have ingested some vegetation which contained a bacteria which subsequently traveled to his lungs causing an infection. Roman was a model patient at UF (everyone fell in love with him) and surgery to remove some infected tissue was successful. Follow up visits and radiographs reveal complete recovery, but Roman will continue with antibiotics for several weeks and we are looking forward to his beautiful coat growing back in quickly!
Roman is a bigger, beeeautiful beagle who is very mild-mannered and gives the most gentle and delicate kisses. He came into the rescue on February 6th and was fostered by one of our wonderful Louisiana Fosters. While there, he did well with the other dogs in the household only occasionally giving them a little growl if they were out of line. He also made excellent grades with house training, Roman was neutered and treated for heartworms while still in Louisiana and he is ready for adoption. He arrived in Florida on April 5th and is currently still with our intake coordinator - getting along just fine with several other dogs there. He uses the dog door to go outside but likes to be close to the humans. Roman appears to be low to moderate energy dog. He kennels up easily and takes his meals and sleeps at night in his crate. He would most likely tolerate being left alone in his crate for three or four hours but might have to voice his displeasure. However, he would probably not do well being left alone for a long stretch of time 5 days a week. We will post more pictures and some video of Roman soon but for now you will have to take our word for it that he is much better looking than his pictures will show!
