ABBY came to us from a rural North Carolina shelter. She has a very gentle temperament, is still very young, and is a petite 19 pounds. If you are an adopter looking for a special needs dog that will repay you a thousand-fold with her love and sweet personality - Abby is your girl. She apparently suffered an injury in her past which caused the vertebrae in her tail to be separated from her hindquarters by about 3/4 inch. This has caused nerve damage which has resulted in her beng fecal incontinent. Abby's foster family adores her, and with special diet and some management techniques, she is doing well. Abby loves to play with other dogs and is very affectionate with any human she meets. She is crate trained and sleeps quietly there through the night or whenever she needs to be there. She enjoys spending time outside which is helpful as well. If you would like more information on how to manage Abby's special needs, her foster mom would be happy to share. Just contact Lynn at
NOTE:  Since we made the video below, Abby has been seen at the University of Florida Small Animal Hospital and their evaluation indicated that her condition will not improve and surgical intervention is not warranted. Thank you to those who donated making it possible for us to pay for her evaluation!

Special Needs: Abby has nerve damage at the base of her tail and has incontinence issues.
